Need help figuring out Wheel size to replace 18's

So as the title says, I'm looking to replace the 18" Premium alloy rims with inserts, and 215/14r18 tires, as New England has destroyed them. i'm thinking about downgrading to 17's, but i wouldn't know what size I need, or what tires I would need to go on them.

I'm really looking for something durable to potholes, but more a comfortable ride than the extremely low profile tires I had on them, without making the car look dumb with a giant wheel well.

Any tips or recommendations are appreciated!

    Go with 17s and get 225 45 17

You have a number of choices. Possibly the cheapest is just buy yourself some 225 45 18.

If you do decide to downsize to 17, as Zacharycklein said above, go with 225 45 17. The upside with this is that your speedo won't be as inaccurate as the stock set-up.

In both of these cases, the sidewall will be ~15mm greater than your current set-up

I currently use 235/45/17 with 17x8 +45 wheels while lowered in H&R springs and it seems to work well for me. I rub rarely, if ever, and the ride is better than the 225/40/18 tires I use in the winter.
