Question Widest Tire For Veloster Base (non turbo)

Hey everyone, my factory tires are about shot and I am wanting to go wider if possible. I have a Veloster Non-Turbo base model. How wide can I go without causing problems? My original equipped tires are 215/45-17

The reason I am wanting "wider" is for looks and grip.

    Thanks in advance guys.

on a 7 inch rim that's about it! a 235/40-17 should squeeze in there with enough will power haha. If grip is what you want I suggest trying more aggressive tire compounds before going wider. also depending on makes and models some 215s are narrow, some are wide. just look at the specifications on tirerack or other tire websites ( some 215s are 7" wide while others are over 8"!! )

If 235/40-17 could squeeze on there. What about 225/45-17, or 225/40-17?

I'm a fan of Nitto's tires. I been thinking something like the NT NeoGen ZR's, but I have also been scoping the Kumo Ecsta XS, and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

Below are the sizes "Discount Tire" has listed as Plus Zero. I was confused on if that also meant each one of those sizes would fit on the same rim (since there Plus Zero and no Plus One)... lol

    Optional Tire Sizes
    Plus Zero;
    205/45-17
    205/50-17
    225/45-17
    235/40-17
    235/45-17

those are 3 VERY different tires: ecsta xs = best grip ( out of ANY summer tire!! ) neogen is allseason performance that's pretty grippy but far from the kuhmos and the conti dws is quieter, more comfortable. better for everyday driving. and yes 225/45 will fit other members have done that size.

Yeah, I know. I live in Kansas. The weather here is always dramatically changing. It could be 65 degrees one day, and the next you got 12" of snow on the ground haha... so "All Season Performance" is the category I been looking at the most for my Velo but open to other options too.

LOL I dont know if I can agree that Kumo Ecsta XS = (the best grip out of any summer tire) by any means. Maybe best price vs performance summer tire for the Veloster, but not best grip. There is no way they could hang with the grip of a Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial or a Nitto NT05R. But then again those tires sit in a whole natha' class.. Like 400+ HP class, and $300 per tire class haha.

I guess my next question is, Which would be better between the two? A 225/40-17 or the 225/45-17?? That is just a little difference in the sidewall height, right?

You also said the 235/40-17 would squeeze on there with enough will power lol. Has anyone actually put this size on a 17" rimed Velo? If so what did you think about it?

    Know one has done this?

I'm looking to purchase my new tires soon. So far sounds like 225/45-17's are the biggest I can go without problems.

I would really like to do them 235/40-17's though! haha

I have 235/40/18 tires on a 18x8 45et wheel. I know its not exactly the same. With my coilovers at a lower ride height it rubs the front fenders. Ride is superior to the stock 215/40/18 tires.
