Also as a forum user [ SkyriderAR ] Pointed out, for those of you that will be installing something like this, as far as Florida Law Goes (And I assume Arkansas where SkyriderAR Lives) it is ILLEGAL to have more than 4 lights (That project more than 300 candle power) ON at the same time in the front of the vehicle when upon a highway..

    Here is the Quote:
" Whenever a motor vehicle equipped with headlamps, as herein required, is also equipped with any auxiliary lamps or a spot lamp or any other lamp on the front thereof projecting a beam of intensity greater than 300 candlepower, not more than a total of 4 of any such lamps on the front of a vehicle shall be lighted at any one time when upon a highway."

And if like to read it from the source

3 hrs, but he pulled everything he needed to and built a bracket to stalize the lights as the plastic front end will shake/flex. Guy's labor rate is $50/hr.

Something in me just stands here scratching his head. I guess it's just not seeing why would you go and spend extra money when you already have DRL on the car.

I dunno, I guess I would rather just invest in wiring the fogs to run independently if I needed to be really visible, than go adding more lights to the front.

But that's just me. Maybe there's more to it that I'm not seeing/getting.

For me, I've nearly murdered my cars wiring trying to see if there's any way at all to disable the lame high beam DRLs and enable fogs at all times/on demand. Neither have happened yet.

For the right price, I'm not even slightly against a well installed set.

But I'd rather figure out how to make t work as is.

To OP, how were these wired in? I assume that they're on at all times?

@X-Diesel_x : The DRL's that come with this car suck.. plus they are not true DRL's, they are more in the line of accent lights. I Assume you have a Veloster as well, you can see it yourself the light intensity of the "DRL" lights is low you can't see them on during the day (Bright Sunny Day ) as they are so weak. Also you can actually turn them "OFF" As far as I understand "DRL" Factory equipped lights have no "OFF" switch to make sure they are running during the day which is what they are made for. (Wife's old Saturn had DRL's and there was no way to turn this lights off they ran ALL the time)

@Donttipgreg: They install is quite simple the hardest part really as taking the time to hide the wires so it looks nice and clean. I did it in the parking lot one morning took me about 3 hours tops. I did use a volt meter to locate the right wire to tap from to control when the lights turn off.

@Victorious Secret: (Funny Username) The Philips Kit comes with a "DRL" controller box.. This box gets connected directly to the Battery and has a fuse that you can replace. As I understand there is a circuit in the box that detects when the car battery is being charged (Car Is Running) when it detects this it send power to the "DRL" lights attached to it and turns them "ON". Once you turn your car off the "DRL" lights turn off as well.

My car is the Tech model it has Automatic lights so the low bean headlights come on when dark and go off during the day, There is a wire from the Philips controller box that takes 12v and is used to turn the lights OFF while the car is STILL RUNNING; I used the volt meter and TAPPED to the wire that gives power to my low bean lights, This way the "DRL" lights are always on as long as my low beams are "OFF", once the "Low-Beam headlights" come on they switch OFF(DRL'S).

I chose this behavior because I have Fog lights that I like to keep "ON" together with the "Low-Beam headlights". Since this adds up to a total of 4 lights "ON" at night that project more than 300 candle power to be complaint with the state of Florida, I chose to make sure the "DRL" lights go "OFF" when the main "Low-Beam headlights" come "ON", I don't need to interact with the light switch(Steering Column) I leave in the Auto mode and forget about it .

In the future I plan to add a relay with a switch to manually turn the "DRL's" OFF (From inside the car). I should have wire them to the Fog lights instead, this way If I turn the fog lights "OFF" I can have the "DRL + Low beam" "ON" but I really like the fog lights to be on anyway.

Hope the info answer the questions..

Check the pictures from the original post you can see is not that hard to install..

They look awesome! I installed mine back in July and two days later had a wreck that wiped out my lower front end. Insurance took care of this plus reimbursed me for the lights too. The Phillips lights are a great and attractive addition IMO. The lights fit quite well in between the lower grill slats and look almost OEM. Here's a link to my install photos. Installation took me less than 30 minutes. The only real "difficulty" was trying to figure out where to hide some of the excess wiring under the hood. Other than that, it's a very easy DIY install. I've included some photos of my install as well.

Victorious, I know that ImportShark sells the OEM fogs formcars that came without them, and has wiring diagram to have them on at will. So it's a matter of seeing how to take the factory connection and switch it to his way. Also not 100% sure if the original stalk has a detent to hinder the fogs coming on before the low beams.

But yeah, there is definitely a way to make the fogs independent.

I agree with you Jade that the OEM "LED eyeline" is hardly a DRL. Like you've said, it's more of an "accent" marker light.

But in the same token, leaving the low beams always "ON" will make them come on at start up and turn off as soon as car is off and locked. Sure they might be a bit brighter than what you'd need for them to be used as your DRL, but at the same time it saves you the trouble and money of having to buy and wire up new aftermarket DRLs

I dunno, although they might "flow" and blend in and make it look cooler.. I just can't help seeing at as an overkill solution to an issue that could be "fixed" with a much simpler approach.

Plus also gives me a little of a "Family Truckster" vibe.. :P

    Lol Love the picture...

I understand your stand behind not wanting or needing to purchase aftermarket DRL's but look at it my way, I did not installed them because they were missing, I did it because I liked the look of them. In the end (For me) is just cosmetics and not something that was necessary, if you consider most of the aftermarket stuff done to our cars is for looks not need.. (Unless you go for stuff for the engine and such) even a muffler system is installed to gain some HP but also for the sound(cosmetics). Again this is just what I think not necessarily what everyone else does. And considering Low-Beam headlights have a lifespan(They get less bright with time "Sylvania SilverStar Ultra"), I rather not have them all the time just to make my OEM DRL wannabe lights look brighter..
Again the decision was based on looks not need. The install process was done for fun (some of us like to thinker with things like this) next thing I plan on doing is to paint the calipers red.
    Take care

I totally see it that way, it's like installing a spoiler on top of a spoiler (Sequence Devil I'm looking at you) and if you dig how it looks and makes you feel about YOUR car.. More power to you!

I find it refreshing that we can agree to disagree amicably. And as a fellow Century White owner I'd like see more pics of yours.

In Canada, daytime running lights are mandatory so for our V's it's just part of our front lights. the inside part of our headlight assembly turn on during the day. Also we have those lights where when you put the signal on during the daytime, the side you are signaling turns off it's daytime light till the flicker turns back off. I seen that in some Mercs and Chyslers and audis, but hasn't seemed to caught on with most companies...i think it only applies to daytime running lights. seen it with the caliburs but those are really bad since the daytime light is the large centre one

Yea but our implementation of DRLs is pathetic.

It isn't the side markers. It isn't the fogs. It isn't even the turn signals.

It's the freaking high beams on low power.

    It looks...ugly.
