    wiring

I would like to wire my fog lights so they can turn on
just when I have the parking lights on instead of only
turning on with headlights. I think the fogs with just
the parking lights and the led runners looks hot when
the Sun starts to go down. any ideas

Fog lights will only come on when headlights are on. Addtionally this caution:

Owners manual 4-71: "When in operations, the fog lights consume large amounts of vehicle electrical power. Only use the fog lights when visibility is poor or unnecessary battery and generator drain could occur."

Yes, this the first car I ever had with fog lights and I wanted to use them every day! LOL So no matter how "hot" they might make the car look -- don't use them unless it is necessary.

I wish my fogs would go on without having to put on headlamps...

Anyone re-wire their fog light switch so they can turn on the fog lights without the headlamps being on?

I hate this limitation and am thinking of modifying.

Another thought I had is just run my own switch/power to the fogs bypassing the current set.

    Just thinking out loud...

i actually asked the same question a while ago i the only response i got is that fogs are not meant to be used all the time, and that person gave me page number of the manual that says it can be dangerous etc... i think it looks cool but oh well let me know if u come up with something

Just re-wire to your marker lights. Assuming you want marker lights on. ?

Well I didn't want them as always on driving lights, I still want them switchable - just switchable under my control not under the control of whether my headlights are on/off.

Would be nice to use the stock switch though.

Then get a relay and wire harness run to switch and car and then to say battery or empty circuit. And u can have them on and off as u like. Just think of it as installing aftermarket fogs

Well I took apart the relay to figure out how it works. Basically, if you just take a wire and put it to ground (upper left connection - put the wire in the relay connection and put relay back in its place) the fog lights go on. So by grounding the upper left connector, you see the switch activate (with cover of relay off) and then the lights go on whether the car is on or off. The 2 12 volt connections shown are always hot.

Below is the view if the relay is out and you are looking down into the car at the female connectors.

I wish my fogs would go on without having to put on headlamps...-relay.jpg
The "To Fog lights" is what is connected when the upper left is grounded and then when that is grounded the switch is closed and the 2 horizontal connectors are then closed and fogs go on.

I wonder who that was? It might have been me. Owner's Manual page 4-71: "CAUTION: When in operation, the fog lights consume large amounts of vehicle electrical power. Only use the fog lights when visibility is poor or unnecessary battery and generator drain could occur."

I totally agree it "looks cool" -- but I have refrained from using them simply to be "showy".

Save them for when you actually need them.

You are really into warning us about this. I would think if I wire this up the way I want, and can drive in dusk w/ my fogs on but headlights off, that less power is being drawn.

The fogs put out so little light that it would be for show only. Driving in dark conditions without your headlights on is a recipe for disaster.

When I leave for work the sun is coming up. So in those in between times I'd like to put on the running lights with the fogs.

But does it really matter what I do. It is like I'm on the mom list with this thread .

Well, in the case of your own safety and the safety of other drivers, I would argue that yes, it does matter what you do.

Argue all you want, I'll still be doing this mod. Ordered my switch to wire it up. I guess no one here can offer any technical advice except to try and mother me.

I trust you will apply common sense and use whatever lighting is needed based on conditions. And, I am very interested in learning from you how to do this mod, if you don't mind. Thanks.

I totally agree with you. I'm sure msquad will know when to use the correct lighting. Every car I've driven in the past allowed me to turn on the fog lights first and I've used it for so long and there was never a problem with the electrical system.

And yes, it does look cool!

I'm just quoting the OM pointing out how it "suggests" a battery drain. I am not requiring obedience, allegiance, or anything else. Do what you want.

I know exactly what you mean about the time of day when having the fogs on with out the headlights looks nice. This time of year thats between 7p - 8p here, it's just when it's starting to get dark - before the headlights are needed... Accent lighting lol :-)
